China will play in the group that does not include the U.S., so their chances of qualifying for the quarterfinals go up.

Obviously, it would take a Lake Placid size miracle for China to actually BEAT the US should it make it to the gold medal game, but the opportunity to hedge off will be there (even at stiff odds).
